weekly round up

mescal hotness, john waters, and olivia rodrigo geeking over didion.

slow and steady, the week has gone. still crunching through our share of night, with other miscellaneous tiny reads to bring my reading count up for the month. fashion week has been fun to keep up with and it has inspired me in terms of texture and layers. it’s the minute details that i’ve been looking at. i do this to stay grounded. stay true to myself? or realize that myself is here and i’m making sense of what is here. so here is here: !!!

🍥 i’m still obsessed with the latest olivia rodrigo album. here’s an interview with her and phoebe bridgers geeking out about didion. their talk also looks into fame and maintaining creativity while touring. how they humble each other is charming and respectful.

🍥 as the opening of the new john waters exhibit approaches at the academy museum, i’m incredibly impressed by the store’s decision to collaborate with some of my favorite artists:

first off, LA based artist seth bogart has created some incredible designs for the exhibit’s merch in his signature grime and grease. they’re punkish and palm springs pink gay. i love it!

🍥 i’m also surprised that they reached out to scrt, based out of london, a streetwear brand that focuses on cult classic films. they currently have a run of lost in translation shirts that i’m obsessed with.

🍥 speaking of john waters. in a recent summer reading wrap up from colleen (@booksthehausdown), she talked about how much she enjoyed the wacky world of liarmouth, which i read last year. this sent me into a binge-spiral of watching any interviews i’ve missed of john waters. if you haven’t seen him in an interview, you should. he’s incredibly hilarious. i also recently found out that his autobiography mr. know it all has been published in paperback. it pairs well with his earlier book, role models. waters taught me how to be subversive in the best way possible. he manages to combine good taste with bad, and though his earlier films got me into a lot of trouble in high school, i still get into the same kind of trouble, but with a bit more class…as a hot piece of a$$ ;)

🍥 an unlikely pair, dua lipa and patti smith come into talks about just kids and the creative process as an artist. two worlds collide with two energies i didn’t think would ever cross paths but here we are. it truly is an interesting time to be alive.

🍥 andrew haigh returns with all of us strangers, featuring andrew scott and paul mescal. fleabag priest and normal people heartthrob get hot and steamy??? sign me up! haigh’s sophomore film weekend was a gateway into my gayness, teaching me what tender looks like. what touch feels like. and it broke something in me. it’s an incredibly quiet film and it’s through haigh’s tlc do we understand what queer love looks like, feels like.
