pato: on pineapple, pokemon, and purpose.

nookish guest #4

in my eyes, pato embodies everything i loved about the internet when i literally lived on tumblr throughout my high school nights. all the hunting, all the digging, thousands of tabs open, laptop overheating, but the joys overwhelming with much discovery, much anticipation to get to it all. to indulge in all of life’s delights. put simply, pato is all of life’s delights. their taste in music, film, and books fixate on the goodness of life, or what we try to achieve when seeking out the rights to our wrongs in our scattered mundanities. with their podcast-comfort voice and laxed atmosphere all set up in a bedroom full of wonder, they’re just that one friend who’s excited to tell you about their favorite things. with urgency, with love. and so, with urgency and love, i present to you pato!!! take it away pato~~!

🥮 describe the view outside your window.

murky, hypnotic, hopeful. rainy layover in san fransisco preceding a flight to osaka.

🥮 what’s your food of the month?

i ate so much pineapple yesterday that my stomach hurts, its straight up candy. w some chamoy n tajin too soooo good.., whole month i’ve been chipping away at this summer sausage my coworker gifted me, rlly pepper-y w a heavy rind its super good but cant eat v much at a time, kind of like nice chocolate where u can only do one square a day. speaking of, kettl has a really good matcha chocolate bar - and i just tried a houjicha version .,, insane.

🥮 what’s your elevator pitch?

🥮 what are you reading now?

finished the argonauts by maggie nelson a few days ago and brought a bunch of prospective books to start for my trip,

🥮 what are you watching now?

not into any TV at the moment, feel like i’ve been waiting for severance season 2 to get back into shows period. still need to finish better call saul and succession but not in a rush.

downloaded a bunch of stuff for the flight, hoping to watch my first andrei tarkovsky film if my attention span allows it - either solaris or stalker. other hopefuls are yi yi, sans soleil, rear window, a woman under the influence, the devil, probably, la ceremonie, and the vanishing 👍👍

🥮 current obsessions?

my bandwidth for obsession is being spent fully on music at the moment. i’m trying to squeeze in all the albums i’ve missed this year right at the end and have my hands (ears?) full. theres well over 20 releases i hadnt heard and i want to listen more than once before judging so its been nonstop all month.outside of contemporary stuff i’ve been really into roedelius lately for 80’s synthy ambient soundscapes. some favorite albums so far from this year i’m just finding this month are teezo touchdown, who i find really endearing/refreshing, yo la tengo, equal parts hypnotic and engaging, bar italia, really consistent and stylistically in their bag & the two alchemist albums w earl + mike/wiki. oh and the new slauson malone, insane.

🥮 what have you been dreaming about?

sculptures by daniel arsham

last dream i wrote down i was in a museum with a bunch of pokemon art installations, like how they have dinosaurs up at science/history museums. i was in an aquarium section and there were a ton of water types on display (not alive just replicas). i usually have really vivid dreams but i forget them within a few mins of waking up, i dont care enough to write them down but i’ll half asleep text my friend notes to self about them every once in a while.

🥮 what song(s) has best represented your mood for the month?

two roomed motel - scott gilmore

painter from new york - color filter

little green apples - roger miller

baby k interaction (mixed) - via app

thats the way of the world - charles stepney

🥮 what’s something you’ve learned this month?

that post college, this current period is the rest of my life & i have the rest of my life to figure things out. big picture there’s way less of a time limit than my anxiety imposes. “¿para qué sufrir si no hace falta?”

i command you to give all your love to pato here.
